25th October 2015:
Today I wrote up my interview questions and had a preliminary chat with my initial interviewee however, afterwards, I decided it was more suitable to interview Dr Pye for the information I need because he has a broader classical experience and can play both the Organ and Piano which meant I could access a mind knowledgeable of both the instruments. From this I gained a source of primary research of an interesting comparison about two similar instruments related to my investigation.
14th November 2015:
Several sources of information have been linked into the 'Reference' page on my site today. These are about The Minimalism Period so when I have encountered enough resources about it, I can hijack different bits of information to construct that particular page with reliable details. I did this so I can keep researching for sources about the other pages on my site without forgetting what I have already found. Over time, I will do the same for the other pages, then once I am done collecting, I can focus purely on adding information to my site.
16th December 2015:
Today I linked the 'Who? What? Where? When? Why?' page to several different sites for me to refer back to for guidance when filling in gaps of knowledge on my site. Each question now directs the viewer to another page and after I have taken information from the sites I linked them with, the viewer will be able to understand a brief explanation about How The Development of The Piano Has Impacted Western Music.
29th January 2016:
I loaned the book, Musical Instruments of The World, from a library because I found information about how the Piano has formed into the instrument it is today. In that one source I found concise information which enabled me to produce a chronological order of the instruments which will further help me to produce a timeline about the history of the Piano without difficult exploring the correct derivatives in that line. This book alone provides a good foundation of information for me to elaborate on.
30th January 2016:
Now I have the names of the ancestors of the Piano, I started compiling them into a graphic, visual, timeline on Paint for my page 'Timeline of the Piano'. For each of these different instruments, I found an image of each instrument online so when viewers sought to this page they can see what the instrument looked like; furthermore, establishing the dramatic change from a Dulcimer to a Modern Grand Piano.
5th February 2016:
I conducted the interview with Dr Pye. It was completed at a later date according to my time scale due to other obligations outside of this unit.
15th February 2016:
Today I completed the page titled 'History of The Piano' by sourcing several different websites then depicting them for the information useful for my site. I purposely looked at several different websites because some of the information I was looking for could be difficult for others to understand when reading it from my site and could lead to confusion or misinterpretation. In addition to this, due to the era of the setting I was researching, if several sites displayed the same details about the Piano, I knew the facts were reliable. Doing this has allowed me to mention a breif history behind the Piano and taught me that the Piano is really a vital organ for Western music, since without it, particular genres could change drastically or even cease to exist.
21st February 2016:
Today I realised that my 'Who? What? Where? When? Why?' collects very similar information that my other research pages do therefore the extra information that would have been on this page has now been segmented to suit the other pages. This is usesful because the viewers of my site will not have to sought to loads of different locations on my site now. Also, now the information has been categorised, it makes it easier for me to conclude how I think the Piano has impacted the modern Western World of music.
24th February 2016:
I arranged another interview with Dr Pye to ask him two more questions for my investigation. Now, that has concluded my primary research and has enabled me to see a comparison between two keyboard instruments (although the Piano is technically a hybrid of percussion and stringed whilst the Organ is a wind instrument) and the contribution they have had on modern Western music - the piano has developed and impacted the generation more than the Organ.
